Game 1 - Dies Irae Wicken12
Town of Wickenshire, Midland
Monday 3rd, Harvest, 1106

The town of Wickenshire is a small trading settlement located in northern Midland. With a relatively small population of 300 souls, it has fallen out of the attention of the Midland government for quite some time now. Wickenshire and the surrounding area is now falling into a state of disrepair, frequently forced to deal with bandits and prowling wildlife on its own.
Rumors circulate that the kingdom of Midland is facing a slow demise, rotting under the weight of its ancient institutions and corrupt bourgeoisie. The people turn to God and the church in these dark times, and all await a savior.

Game 1 - Dies Irae Img_1211

Assembled in front of a small tavern, a small group of bystanders watches as the village Reeve hammer a notice into the town sign post.
'Citizens of Wickenshire! A reward has been levied against the men responsible for attacking the northern timber road. A handsome sum of 20 marks to the man or group who lay low these bandits.'

Reeve Terrance Mercia, a posh man of urbane descent, turns to the crowd.
"A generous benefactor has put up this sum to save our town! By the grace of god who will claim this money and rid us of the pox of these bandits?"

A man at the back of the crowd perks up at the mention of reward. He throws the smoldering end of his crumpled cigarette into the mud and says to the up-jumped townsmen "I will rid you of these bandits, just be sure my reward is on hand upon my return". He then moves to the edge of the town square and begins checking over his equipment, including his quiver of arrows and large asymmetrical bow.

The local priest steps out from the tavern door, a mug of ale in hand; "The bandits have plagued us with their godless ways for too long." He shouted above the quiet murmuring of the crowd. "I shall see to it that gods will is fulfilled, and bring peace and prosperity back to the land of our god!"

The priest adjusted his hooded robe, ensuring his face remained obscured from the light of day. "All who will join me on this noble quest from our lord, gather your weapons and meet me at the Abbey in one hours time." Downing the remainder of his drink, the priest marched his way to the towns small House of God.

The man with bow turns to Faye and gruffly says,"Half the reward for half the risk... Deal". He lights another dishevelled cigarette. "The name's Karl, in one hour lets meet at the abbey. The priest will have his gods thanks, 1/3 of the risk for half the reward sounds like a better deal." He sits lounging against the nearest building smoking and absently cleaning his gear

The Reeve smiles warmly. "Bless you father, I'm glad we have the support of the church in this."
He turns to the slowly dissolving crowd.
"Come see me when this task is done, you have my word as a Mercia that the coin will be yours."
With that, he turns and begins pulling himself up to mount his large draft horse.

>Karl: Your gear looks like its in good enough order. However the new string on your bow doesn't look like it will take to well to water, best keep it dry.

>Eric: You begin the 10 minute walk back to your Abbey 'St-Dominus-the-Holy-Flame'. Roll 100 Perception check.

Perception check
(Also, testing the dice roller. Note, if you edit your message, it screws with the dice roller.)

EDIT:
Dice roll was 27.
Really weird that it posted using your account

EDIT 2:
Apparently editing doesn't actually effect anything.

I move to inquire about the new arrivals status. As a new member of the town, he may want to find out more of the local clergy, or if he is just passing through, a blessing and a place to stay.

"The lord smiles on this day, traveller. I have yet to meet you, and I know all of my flock, so I assume you to be new in town. Is there anything the Church can offer a wayward soul?"

>Faye: You enter the small cloister of St Dominus barely a minute behind the local priest. The building contains just a single small hall for prayer, and an outbuilding in which the priest lives. The surrounding grounds are covered in beautifull flower gardens.
As you sit to adjust your gear, you faintly hear the sounds of rats scraping. Even in a place of god like this there can be no escape from the dirty realities of Midland.

>Eric: You arrive back in the humble abbey. Already one would be savior of the town has arived, surely more will be here shortly.

"My child," the priest said to the huntress, "Come in to the chapel so we may prepare ourselves."

Eric entered the Abbey, and moved down the centre Aisle towards the humble alter, adorned with not but a red cloth, two candles on either side, and a chalice. Upon reaching the alter, he called for the alter boy. "Oishin, I require assistance."

"I once knew a man who was a demon slayer..." The words echoed out from beneath a mask as I admire the garden from a perch upon the Abby palisade. My eyes wonder further to the open doors and the maiden holding a spear before them. I also see a faithful brother as he turns and walks inside, no doubt smiting out heresy within church pews and barking for Holy oils. Pressing the small flute to my lips I play a quick high-chord and attempt to get the woman's attention. "Perhaps today is your lucky day, for you are like no other I'm sure, to believe that your wishes will be granted... would it not be better still, to sit and enjoy the bloom with one who has blessed real lords and ladies?

Taking up a position behind the alter, the priest pulls a holy book from a protective case beside the alter, and places the book on a nearby lectern. "Blessed be the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle" He mumbles, mostly to himself, before the alter boy comes back out from the back room, placing a goblet of wine and a plate of bread wafers on the alter before returning to the room.

"God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation." The alter boy returned, bringing forth a candle which he held reverently, before alighting the two candles on the alter, right then left.
“Do not be afraid or dismayed; be strong and courageous. For thus the Lord will do to all your enemies against whom you fight.”

"We shall wait until the hour is up, before I perform the blessing." Eric said, before heading to a communal prayer area, where he sat on a mat, motioning Faye to join.

Post by Crazyjay 07/03/16, 03:49 pm

The heavy wooded doors of the abbey creak open as a tall and burly woman, well weathered from the road saunters in. She eyes the group forming near the alter and confidently strolls towards them, hand held up in a lazy wave to the priest on her approach.

"Ho there, names Minna and i heard the Reeve say this Village was in need of a strong arm and a sharp axe" hands resting confidently on the twin hatchets belted to her waist. "well, axes" she corrects her self with a smile. "I'm no stranger to fighting bandits, been on the road and fighting since i was barely a woman; on my own or in a company".

She sits heavily on a pew, her stiff leather armor and shoulder plate creaking as she does so. The lazy smile, a slight rise of the right side of her mouth, seems permanently plastered on her scarred face. She looks toward the priest before saying "So, when do we head out?"

"To all gathered, take part in the body and blood of our Lord, so he may grant us strength in trying times to come." The priest takes the wine, and bread, and gives it to any who come forward, saying "Gott Mit Uns" to the partakers.

After giving the sacrament to himself, he reaches behind the alter, and produces a mace, half his height, with a hollowed head, placing tar and pitch in the cavity, before lighting it from the left most candle on the alter. "Let His flame guide us, and let His flame punish those who wrong us. Deus Vult."

He moved down the aisle of pews, and burst through the door, "Clean up well I am gone, Oishin."

Game 1 - Dies Irae Empty Re: Game 1 - Dies Irae

Pistol smiles beneath his mask, for indeed before him lay the foundations of tribulation in which a great ballad may be sung. The overzealous flame! A spear striking none other than thy heart? A Bow large enough for siege, and lastly a woman most feral! the vision became clear and he saw himself among them, striking off into the lands of neverwhere together. sliding from his perch he strode furtively towards them and amongst there number.

Marching Order:
Faye
Erik
Pistol
Karl
Minna

A sudden blast of wind bursts through the trees as you begin the march towards the northern road. The sun flashes through the sky, filling you with hope and inspiration.
Perhaps Midland is not in such dire straits after all.

((Waiting on Karl before I go any further.))

To the North of Wickenshire a pair of roads branch off into the wild. The Gold Road, once a major Midland trade route, stretches North East through the Blackwood, eventually reaching the town of Fallowfield.
To the North West, the Lumber Road winds dizzily through the dense forest towards the town of Cider Valley. While the Lumber Road was once a major thoroughfare of an ancient empire, it now is used for little other then collecting timber to warm the homes of local villages.

As you approach the terminus of the villages northern edge, you pass a weary group of Midland soldiers heading the opposite direction. Filthy with mud and grime, they march slowly, staring off into the distance.

((OOC, try to keep track of food/water you are carrying on your person in your inventory. You can't perform many feats of heroism if you starve to death.))

As she passes the soldiers Faye chirps up. "Afternoon gentlemen how are the roads you just traveled through? Anything we should know?"

The lead soldier, a disheveled sergeant, sighs heavily as he turns to face Faye.
"If yer headdin' up Cider Valley ways I'd think 'gain."
He spits a thick wad of chewing tobacco spit onto the road.
"Gerdamm Bandits be thick like nerthin' else up themways, been hare'sassing the guard sermthin' fiercelike."

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God," Eric says as he passes the soldiers. "We are heading there to deal with that mess in the name of our Lord, blessed be his name."

Minna grins wide before saying "And by deal with that mess the father means crack some Bandit skulls" Minna lets out a throaty laugh, before taking a quick swig from her flask; toothy grin still playing across her scarred face

Two of the soldiers make the sign of the cross, wearily looking away from the group. The other two exchange knowing glances, and shake their heads.
As they continue marching past the Sergeant turns back for a moment.
"Aint no God out in dem woods fadder. Aint no gareson up themways needer."

The weary column turns the corner, entering Wickenshire and passing from the groups field of view.
It is 12:20pm, the sun is shining and the road is long ahead. It's about 60 kilometers to Cider Valley along the Lumber Road.
